Journal-related info

I have another Livejournal, scyllaopal, but at this point I've more or less dropped it in favor of using this one. So if you have both of my LJs friended, just keep mieu.

I'm not in the habit of posting to LJ often -- I read my friends list more than I post. I make my longer, more personal posts at my website, darksiren's domaine, which also has a feed here: darksirensally. Lately, I've been trying to nudge myself towards visiting Livejournal more often, and even posting now and then.

I also have a very-sporadically-posted-upon InsaneJournal here, which I have been using so far to make the odd RP-related post now and then.

On LJ friends... I tend to be rather selective about who I add, because I don't want my friends list to bloat. However, I think I'm approachable and friendly enough, and I'll at least give your journal a look, maybe even try to contact you personally.

I generally don't post friends-only posts, unless I'm posting something that includes contact information or other things I don't want publicly known.

What else? Well, I have a lot of time on my hands right now, not completely by choice. I spend a great deal of it online. I suppose my biggest hobby is roleplaying -- and by roleplaying I mean tabletop RP, not freeform. Unfortunately, I don't know any gaming groups in RL, so I make up for it by roleplaying with tabletop rules online, through OpenRPG, the odd forum RP now and then, or even IRC. My favorite tabletop system at the moment is Exalted, but I'm also interested in Legend of the Five Rings, Scion, Shadowrun, Warhammer Fantasy / WH40K Dark Heresy and more, and am willing to try (almost) anything!

I'm also a web admin (and somewhat sysadmin), having maintained darksiren.net since 2001, for myself and a few friends. It's current incarnation makes heavy use of PHP/MySQL content management systems, as well as wikis where appropriate. Mmmm, dynamic content. And even better, dynamic updating of content. I suppose that means I'm better now at backend than frontend design, but that's my laziness at work. Or is it efficiency? :P One day, I really ought to be doing all this stuff for a living, I think.

My other great pastime is video games. I have one MMO (Phantasy Star Universe), one MUD (Dragonrealms), and am absolutely crazy about playing Sims 2 (hundreds of Sims and neighborhoods, every expansion installed, gigabytes of custom content). I also love playing RPGs, though lately, my video game RPG love has been displaced by my online tabletop RPG love. Series I've liked include classic Phantasy Star (Sega Master System, Genesis), Breath of Fire (Super NES, Playstation 1-2), Shining Force/Holy Ark/Tears/etc. (Sega Genesis, Sega CD, Saturn, Playstation 2), Atelier Iris (Playstation 2), Etrian Odyssey (Nintendo DS), Baldur's Gate (PC) and Neverwinter Nights (PC). I also love Nippon Ichi strategy games, though I prefer the non-Disgaea ones. And yes, I do like Final Fantasy, just not all of them (faves are FF4, 9, 10, 12).

I have been diagnosed with depression, and now and then I make posts alluding to this, or my behavior may reflect my disorder. I can be extremely self-critical and prone to excessive, inappropriate guilt. I can also clam up and become very difficult to reach, when I'm in my worst of moods. I am not perfect... but I'm trying to improve my mental health and my outlook on life, one step at a time.
