Hi gals (and guys) I have a quick question that I hope someone here can help me with.
My old 60 gig PS3 crapped out on me so I got A new one a couple of days ago. I hadn't tried downloading anything because I was wait for a friend to install an extra 320gb harddrive for me. Anywho he installed it tonight and I went to download some Video from the Playstation store and it's saying that I have to deactivate my account on my old PS3 before I can activate/download stuff on the new one.
Except my Old PS3 is Dead and gone, no way to get onto it to deactivate it.
So my question is how would I go about Deactivating it. Do I just contact PlayStation or is there another way around this?
Thank you in Advance guys!

Oh good lord. Internet, I need your help. Don't worry, I've cross-posted this to the LJ TESOL community, but y'all are smart folks who I imagine will have useful angles on this:
The other day my co-teacher and I had our students write down their goals for six week period of the course. One student's goal was to be "able to understand and talk to black people more clearly".
What the hell am I supposed to do with that? A number of things have crossed my mind: I know he's talking about AAVE (African American Vernacular English), but I don't want him to assume that all black people in the U.S. use AAVE because that's not true. At the same time, I do want to address his concern, even if it's not in class, because I'm his teacher and it's my job to do so; if he's having a difficult time time understanding the speech of some black people, I need to help him communicate more effectively (btw, the town we're in is 30% black). I also want to do it in a respectful, accurate, interesting and useful manner.
Some of the other students also mentioned having an interest in working on understanding varieties of English other than the standard Midwestern U.S. broadcast type, so there's potential to integrate it into future lessons. ANY IDEAS?
CLASS SPECS:
My students are mostly grad students who've had some formal ESL instruction; the class's focus is speaking/listening/pronunciation in an adult ed setting. Lots of folks with strong academic English skills but weaker with colloquial speech and listening.

So I've been away at college for quite some time and whenever I come home my room is usually occupied by my brother (ever since my grandma moved in he had to give up his room) and so all my stuff is boxed. Well I came home this summer and started thinking about all the games I miss playing.. Well I went on an adventure and started digging around.
I found a few of my FAVORITE games and am hoping to find more in a box tomorrow that's on my closet. So far I have found..
Pokemon Pinball
Pokemon Red (My old one from when I was like.. 11.. whoa 1998. Has old data but can never evolve my Graveler.. no one to trade with D: )
Pokemon Yellow
Pokemon Gold & Silver
Mario Tennis
an old purple Gameboy Color
Pokemon Pikachu2
Pokemon Trading Card Game
I have been playing these games all day.. ESPECIALLY POKEMON PINBALL OMG.

So yeah. WHAT HAVE YOU FOUND DIGGING AROUND RANDOMLY? And if not.. GO DIG AROUND OLD STUFF.

So, Xbox live problems...
I have a wireless network in my apartment that is secured with a password. However, whenever I search for networks on the Xbox it picks up everything BUT my network. I've tried manually putting in the info I think it requires but that hasn't worked. And to boot I set up this network years ago and (stupidly) forgot the username and password to my router's online account (where it has all the little information).
I've tried talking to Xbox support and they've been thoroughly useless, telling me to do things I've already tried.
Any ideas how to make my wireless work? :\

So I'm thinking about getting over my makeup aversion (the rebellion has lasted long enough) and start doing some minimal makeup again. I'm not that well versed in it though, so I need some advice, which is where you guys (or rather girls) come in!
Here's what I'm thinking of doing; pencil eye liner, probably something soft so I can brush it out cause I suck with it, dark but not black, probably dark brown. Then curling my lashes. Possibly some earthy eye shadow for special occasions.
Now what I'm not sure about. First mascara. I hate the stuff, and I'm not convinced after curling if I really need it since I have decently long, dark and thick eyelashes naturally. Can I do eye liner but not mascara though? Or is that some sort of faux pas?
Further, is there anything that I can do for my lips besides full on lipstick? It's gooky and tastes funny and by god I hate it. Any suggestions in that area would be welcome. I have some Labello Pearl & Shine but it really doesn't do much visually. Glorified chapstick, I guess.
And then some, do you need blush to go with this? Not big on blush. But I suppose if I must I must, but I wanna know if I can get away with not doing it because... well yanno, lazy and I want to be very minimalist.
So, suggestions?

"Girls should be just as strong as men. I mean, they carry purses and men don't!"
...
That's what SPAWNED the comment I'm annoyed by. I just figured imagining all the facepalms at that would make me laugh.
...
... And it did. XD
Now then, in response to the physical strength/gender debate: one person replied that there's absolutely no reason women can't be stronger than men, it's just that men are so afraid to see a girl who is stronger than them that they go out of their way to enforce gender roles that leave women feeling obligated to be dainty and weak.
My response: Get over yourself and take a damn biology class. There is a VERY GOOD, SCIENTIFIC reason why men have more physical strength than women do. It is called "testosterone." Women have testosterone in their system, yes, just like men have estrogen. However, both of those hormones do something different to the human body, and the AMOUNT of the hormone in the body counts. Why don't women usually have facial hair? Lack of testosterone.
The same thing applies for physical strength. Men build muscle mass easier. Women can do it too, they've just got to work a lot harder at it. It's got nothing to do with gender roles, unless you don't actually care to work out. If that's the case, by all means- delude yourself into thinking it's an evil patriarchy's fault, if it makes you feel better for not being as physically strong as a boy. You're wrong, but you're free to think it.

So, my fellow girl-gamers, I think we all have certain games that we all cherish, no matter how much time passes by. For me, one of those games is Lucasart's Monkey Island series. Filled with great puzzles and funny jokes, it's one of those series I could play over and over again.
So, imagine my wonderful surprise when I discovered this:

EEEEEEEEEEEK! Awesome awesome awesome! I thought I would never see another MI game again, but I'm glad I was wrong! I also had heard NOTHING about this game--I only discovered it because my housemate ran across an internet ad for it. Loving this series as much as I do, I decided to pass it along to any MI-fans in here :-)

I love my Nintendo DS and am happy with it... however, there is that little voice inside me saying "OMFG!!! GET THE DSi ALREADY!!!" I call that my inner gamer :-)
What I want to know is for the money, is a DSi really worth it? I know all the feature differences and yes, it does look pretty damn nice compared to the original DS. I'm just wondering if the new features really make gameplay that much nicer? I'd have to sell my old DS and then save up until I can afford the DSi.
I do love the camera idea, but I've heard people say the camera quality sucked.
Anyone who has a DSi or anyone who has used one, can you give me a quick review of it? Also, whats your favorite DS/DSi game?
I'd say mine is Mario Party 3, in mini game mode. It helps me kill time at work but since its just mini games you arent getting into a storyline or anything. Just having fun :-)

Yay the magical 360 has arrived! I have some questions.
My boyfriend and I are sharing the 360 so we'd want to play in the same place, same time but also online with some long distance friends.
Even though we use the same console, do we each have to pay for separate LIVE accounts associated with our gamertags? (ugh, I'm used to sharing things like internet price so this surprised me)
I vaguely remember reading that Ghostbusters allows you to play online but not with someone next to you on the 360 version? But you can on the Wii version, is that right? (happy to get it for Wii although I'm impatient and kinda want to get it NOW! suddenly I understand timed exclusives :P)
Since we're in the same room, the headsets seem like a bulky way to go about voice chat/teamspeak..... is there a way to hook up just a mic and speakers?
Since the mic in Rock Band has no buttons, would it be compatible from PS2 to 360? I thought I heard all USB mics would work, but not absolutely sure...
I heard there are some alternate drum sets (more heavy duty, option to be used as electronic drums outside the game) - anyone tried these? which are compatible? recommendations?
If I get a LIVE account for a few months then stop payment on it, then pick it up later will my data be saved in between or will I have to start over again? If it saves it, is there a time limit for how long it saves?
Thanks ladies!

My attention's been called to some horror titles on the DS. The thing that's bugging me is that there's no news on stateside releases.
To be honest, it surprises me; there seems to be a pretty decent western interest in Japanese-style horror. I'll quickly admit to having developed a love for the stuff in recent years due to certain game franchises (Fatal Frame in particular, as well as the earlier Silent Hill titles). That kind of stuff really relies on atmosphere, and atmospheric horror definitely does a better job of getting me on edge and scaring me shitless than something randomly jumping out of the shadows.
I also really, really like mystery games (especially Hotel Dusk); combining mystery and horror is just setting my poor fangirl brain up to explode from sensory overload. Hayarigami and Hayarigami 2 are two such titles I'd love to see ported. The thing that surprised me was that they're Nippon Ichi titles. Yeah...can't say that was something I expected, either.
The one I really want to see, however, is a Square Enix title: Nanashi no Game. Got to see a good chunk of day one, and it was creepy as all Hell. It makes me a little sad that this one's barely noticed beside all the recent Final Fantasy news.
I'd like to hold out hope that there's a slim chance we'll see any of these being localized. Then again, I also held out hope there'd be a sequel to Vagrant Story, and look where that got me. :(
PS: Dammit dammit DAMMIT. Now I need to get a Wii again.

Last year when they announced the Sims being made into a movie I was a little weirded out by the concept. I still think it sounds stupid, but I'm willing to forget about it completely now that Universal has bought the rights to make an Asteroids movie. And that really makes my head hurt, because where was the plot to the game? Even wiki can't attempt to give you a plot for the game. And come on, Pac Man and Joust are really pushing it too.

So my question is this: are there any games that you've played in the past that you would sit back and wonder how they'd attempt to make a storyline out of them? Or, for that matter, any game that you absolutely want them to stay away from?
Personally, I want them staying far away from Zelda and I'd really rather not know how they'd adapt something like Katamari or Q*Bert.
